The Por Larranaga brand was one of the most famous brands in the portfolio of Habanos S.A. in the 19th century and was considered the epitome of luxury, which is why the cigars were among the finest and most expensive of all at the time and were available in the most distinguished shops on five continents. Some went so far as to make the Por Larranaga brand of Havana cigars famous in the first place. The author of the "Jungle Book", Rudyard Kipling, passed down the following quote about his favourite cigar: "There's peace in a Larranaga". In recent years, the portfolio has been visibly reduced, which is why the announcement of a new vitola called Galanes is somewhat surprising.

The format developed especially for the Por Larranga Galanes bears the sonorous name de Galera. It is a shortened and somewhat thicker Robusto with the tobacco blend typical of the brand. Gründer der Marke war Ignacio Larrañaga, der die Marke 1834 in Havanna registrieren ließ. Ihr Ruhm verbreitete sich rasch um die ganze Welt. Man bekam sie in den besten Hotels, Clubs und Restaurants auf allen fünf Kontinenten. Manche gingen sogar so weit zu sagen, die Por Larrañaga hätte die Habano berühmt gemacht. Viele Geschichten ranken sich um diese Marke und besonderen Charme haben die Worte des Autors Rudyard Kipling, dem Verfasser des Dschungelbuchs: „There is peace in a Larrañaga“.
