Buy cigars by Montecristo
The sophisticated reputation of the Montecristo brand precedes it all over the world. No brand is better known and none is so synonymous with a premium Habano. It is the reference for all other Habanos. Quality, taste and aroma are outstanding and very intense. The sonorous name alone awakens memories of childhood and the first encounter with the novel The Count of Montecristo by Alexandre Dumas in every aficionado. The identity of the names is not a coincidence, but rather due to the fact that the novel was one of the readers' favorite readings for the torcedores in the H.Upmann manufactory, where it was originally handcrafted. When looking for a fitting name for the top Habanos, they quickly agreed. Since its baptism in the 1930s, the Montecristo has been an entity that no other Habano can ignore. At least for lovers of medium-strength mixtures. Nowadays, the selection, which was originally limited to an assortment numbered 1 to 5, includes everything a cigar smoker's heart desires - from the majestic Montecristo A to the little Joyita. They all have the typical Montecristo taste in common.

At the same time as its longer sister, this classic Montecristo began to conquer the hearts of aficionados. The massive boxes of 100 pieces that used to exist are history – thank goodness this great cigar lives on.
Flavours
As in Cohiba, the two are similar Lancero formats taste naturally strong – and as there, the smaller Vítola is also the somewhat lighter and more beginner-friendly cigar at MC, corresponds more to the first than the last three quarters of the long one. In other words, the typical brand aromas are a little sweeter and sweeter, the captivating spice and earthiness of the “Especiales” are more strongly integrated into gentle coffee and chocolate nuances, the roasted aromas are more moderate. The strength doesn't pick up quite as much towards the end either.

Wissenswertes

Worth knowing
Original idea to name a Torpedo cigar after a boat trip of all things – the specific format as such is in turn called „Forum“. The somewhat shortened Corona Gorda with a rejuvenated head presents the „Open“-blend in any case äußonly delightfully for about 50 – 65 minutes.
Flavours
For quite a few aficionados, this is the most complex „Open“cigar. How the Habano tastes in rough sea air remains to be seen – under normal conditions, it unfolds a multi-layered world of aromas in which brand-typical notes combine with particularly fine honey, distinguished crumb notes, elegant cedar scent and underlying R&R notes. In terms of body and flavour intensity, it attracts more than the other representatives of the series, but not in terms of strength, which is hardly higher than that of the „Master“. A very elegant format that will also appeal to Hoyo and Upmann fans.

Worth knowing
This format remains a bestseller even in the age of 6x60„stovepipes“. No wonder, because with the Mareva you can experience the characteristics of a brand in concentrated form in about 35– 50 minutes. This is also the case with this gold piece!
Aromas
It is not for nothing that Montes „Dreier“ is counted among the most circulated of all Habanos. For many decades, it has offered everything that aficionados have come to expect from this brand: the popular interplay of chocolate and strong coffee notes (which are in the foreground here), a good pinch of fine spices (especially nutmeg), a hint of hay and woody scents that are so characteristic of Cuban tobacco; plus a perfectly hit level of sweetness and sloppy creaminess. The strength is in the medium range – this makes the „No. 4“ as well as the „5“, a particularly suitable format for the entry into the classic Monte range!

Worth knowing
Since its introduction in the 1980s, there has been speculation as to whether this cigar is identical to the same-format „No. 4“. This is indeed the case, despite the different name. The maturation in the tubo nevertheless provides a slightly different flavour. Burns for approx. 40 – 50 minutes.
Flavours
In essence, that of „No. 4“ (see there). It should be borne in mind that the tubo slows down the post-maturing process of the finished cigar somewhat, übut also intensifies it over the years. The inlaid cedar leaf influences the taste in that – Üsurprise! – woody-ätheric notes can be tasted a little more clearly. Again, the older, the more cedary. The incomparable Monte aroma play of coffee, cocoa and spices with a little earth is, of course, only discreetly accompanied by this, not at all covered up.

What else is there to write about this award-winning bestseller? The cigar magazines are full to bursting, and hardly any cigar appears more frequently in the hands of celebrities. A must for every aficionado! Smoking time approx. 75 – 95 minutes.
Flavours
A blend for the ages. The creamy smoke consistency, the unique mouth-watering sensation on the palate are unsurpassable. The taste defines the Monte aroma: moderately full-bodied Turkish mocha, herbal dark chocolate mousse, rich nuts, gentle earthiness and sweet hints of fresh hay unite in complete harmony. Just the right amount of power and spiciness, flawless rolling, a consistent flavour, yet linearly increasing intensity. Not a cheap cigar, yet with outstanding PLV, it is one of the best. Grandiose!

Worth knowing
The smallest cigar in Montecristo's „original stock“ is really only behind its sisters in size. A luxurious „break snack“ not for one, but for about 30 – 40 minutes!
Flavours
Cuban minutos are usually designed to present the character of a blend in concentrated, intense form in a mini format. This is also the case with „No. 5“, which combines all the characteristics of its famous brand in 11 cm. Its „muted“, rounded aroma offers earthy spiciness, beautiful fermentation, original Cuban woodiness, but above all, of course, the Monte-typical „chocolate-espresso“ association with its unmistakable herbal „&flavour. Medium-bodied, only a little stronger towards the end, it is more beginner-friendly than the very intense „Media Corona“.
Worth knowing
The release of this cigar in 1971 made waves. Cohiba was not yet on the open market, and so it was the longest, most sought-after and also most expensive smoke in the world. Only ever supplied in very small editions, this exquisite Habano with a smoking time of easily 3 hours is only available from us in the entire region!
Flavours
As the format suggests, the MC flagship offers maximum excitement, variety and intensity. Blessed with a stately smoke development despite its length, it immediately reveals its brand character with silky cocoa notes and a wonderful coffee scent. Especially in the first third, however, a fruity-floral component can be tasted, which other Montecristos do not offer in this form. Particularly pronounced is the increasing concentration of aromas as the smoke progresses. The taste becomes steadily deeper and more full-bodied, with notes of espresso, peat and bread crust. A feast for experienced aficionados!

The latest addition to the “Edmundo” series is this stately Habano in the Toro-like format “Dobles”. Released in 2013, it has become very popular as a slightly gentler alternative to the legendary MC „No. 2''. It burns approx. 80 - 100 minutes.
Flavours
A mega-creamy cigar to indulge in, at the same time smooth and intense. The typical association “coffee + chocolate” that you get with every “Monte” has, forms a harmonious whole with a particularly intensive, almost caramel-like fermentation sweetness. This is complemented by a nutty, roasted umami taste similar to Ramón Allones knows; but the finer overtones of hay and cedar, which are more prominent in the small MC Coronas, can also be tasted. With the aroma concentration, the strength also increases linearly – from a surprisingly easy entry to a fairly powerful finish.

In 2004, Montecristo responded to the increasing demand for sweet, creamy and not too strong large diameter cigars with the “Edmundo” series – with good reason and with great success. The “mother” of the series is a Robusto Grande with approx. 65 - 85 minutes smoke time.
Flavours
Just a little stronger than the “Open” line, this “Monte” a relatively (!) light, sweet and uncomplicated representative of the brand. The classic clear coffee note, which here is most reminiscent of Turkish mocha, lies silky on the palate, alongside the creamy aroma of dark chocolate – a little like chocolate mousse. Some toast, a touch of vanilla and a pinch of oriental spices complete the soft, yet distinctive taste profile. Smooth, medium strong, extremely balanced and completely good-natured until you drop it!

Significantly cheaper than her posh cousin from Cohiba, is this “long thin” yet also a luxurious and intense smoke. Since 1969, the Lancero has been enchanting aficionados with the teasing bun at the head end for around 90 – 110 minutes.
Flavours
This cigar comes slowly but powerfully. The prelude belongs to the soft tones, i.e. subtle, fine wood and roasted aromas. Deep mochas typical of the brand soon appear, and the roasted taste gains an earthy component. An enigmatic sweetness and the typical aroma of coffee are combined with a concentrated spiciness that steadily increases as the smoke progresses. A “dark”, full-bodied, almost peaty aroma emerges more and more, characterized by tones of liquorice, resin and cocoa. A noble, tart smoke, very mouth-filling despite the narrow ring size, quite powerful in the last third.

You can think what you want about the trend towards large ring sizes – What is certain is that baroque Habanos like the Bolívar “Libertador” or this magnificent cigar of Double Toro dimensions with taste opulence inspire! Smoking duration approx. 2 hours to significantly more.
Flavours
To start with, melty-sweet, nutty and rather gentle, the large format does not seem quite as dark and abysmal as the „Dumas”, but all the more balanced. The almost creamy smoke consistency, chocolaty sweetness, the flattering aroma of light nuts and of course the obligatory Monte coffee note combine to form an extremely harmonious play of aromas. Here the trick has been achieved to give the blend a soft, good-natured character despite its considerable strength, which makes every puff of the extra-long smoke a real treat. A holiday cigar par excellence!

Worth knowing
The medium format of this exceptional series is about the size of a Toro. It is not a half-baked compromise between the other two Vítolas, but for all its similarities, it has its very own, appealing character.
Flavours
This is the „1935“ with the „brightest“ aroma and the most uncomplicated smoking characteristics (which does not mean that the others are complicated – on the contrary!). The wonderful coffee flavours are most prominent here, the mouth-watering smoke is fabulous, the yummie-factor of this cigar has something of a tasty earthiness. A little more linear in its development, it nevertheless makes a clear flavour development. The cocoa notes are most intense in the finish. Rolled a little more loosely than its sisters, its power (which varies somewhat between batches) nevertheless ensures 90 minutes of smoking time.
Worth knowing
Launched in 2015, this power dwarf has quickly become a favorite of many aficionados for the “short distance” established. An outstanding “break cigar” (30 - 45 minutes) for fans of rather strong Habanos with “dark” Flavors.
Flavours
The above-average strong Mini-Monte is a prime example of aroma concentration. Roasted coffee aromas with a classy mocha touch, plenty of cocoa on the palate, the brand's unique creamy, subtle sweetness, and surprisingly more body and earth than most longer Corona formats - the second half of a “No. 3”, with a character all of its own. Towards the end, you can certainly remember the depth of taste of the noble “Dumas” remembered. Despite the brevity, a real development can be seen. Great small format!

The real „No. 1“ among the larger Monte formats is paradoxically the „No. 2“ – but this evergreen in the beautiful „Lonsdale“ aka „Cervantes“ format also has tremendous qualities! A very distinguished Habano for 70 – 90 minutes with exciting smoke progression.
Flavours
A prime example of the typical distinctive aroma development of Cuban Coronas! The fine latte and caramel notes of the beginning gradually give way to darker, nobler coffee flavours, complemented by those playful spicy facets that make the thin Montes more pronounced than the thicker ones. Of course, the brand's very own cocoa melt is also present. As it progresses, more and more mocha, earth, spice and strength, with the leading aromas remaining present until the finish. The mouthfeel also remains very pleasant throughout.

The „numbered“ Vítolas have always been in the Monte portfolio. The classic Corona used to be THE cigar format par excellence, the Robusto of the 20th century, so to speak. Today, there are only a few – this high-yield smoke (60 – 80 minutes) is one of the best!
Flavours
Perfectly bridges the gap between the chocolate and coffee accents of the thicker brands and the more spicy, hay-accented aromatics of the smaller ones. The steady development towards more body, depth and darker aromas, on the other hand, is hardly inferior to that of the much longer „No. 1“. Toast and cedar also play elegantly into it again and again. A really noble, wonderfully balanced smoke with wonderfully dense smoke, intense without being challenging. Smooth medium strength, a little stronger towards the end – typical Monte!

The somewhat lighter „Open“series was introduced in 2009. Its image is aimed more at younger, sports-minded and outdoor-savvy aficionados. Originally it was supposed to be called „Sport“, this Toro-like vítola „Monaco“. Either way, a great smoke for 80 – 100 minutes!
Flavours
The large ring gauge brings out the characteristics of the – – – Open“ blend; – bright“, creamy latte notes, grassy-floral sweetness, less toast but more brioche, less cocoa but more whole milk chocolate than the classic series – particularly opulent and well-pleasing. A very good „smoke bomb“ smooth of medium strength, quite beginner-compatible despite its stately dimensions. Clearly milder than e.g. the „No. 2“ and with a more consistent flavour, it is nevertheless fully aromatic and shows a nice flavour development in the course of smoking.

The dwarf of the series in the rare format „Trabuco“ has the narrow ring gauge of a Lancero and thus also some of its smoking characteristics. A quite intense little smoke for about 30 – 40 minutes!
Flavours
The typical aroma concentration of small-diameter cigars is immediately noticeable here – the strong coffee aromas are equally present and in some cases are more reminiscent of „classic“ Montes than other representatives of the „Open“series. The „Junior“ also appears a little more crisp. It still offers the characteristic, creamy-smoky smoke consistency of its sisters, as well as fine sweetness, a hint of cocoa and fragrant hay notes in between. Lighter than the regular Monte series, this exciting, aromatically intense smoke is not necessarily unlike the other „Open“ cigars.
