Flavours

While some of the most recent exclusive cigars from stronger Cuban brands were more tradition-conscious, i.e., relatively boldly blended, this one shines with a fabulously harmonious, yet rather moderate orientation by RA standards. It starts off with a ravishing sweetness – the brand's characteristic nuttiness shines through in a nougat-like melt. This is accompanied by vanilla and dark woods, before the roasted character familiar from Allones comes to the fore. The sweetness takes on a latent fruity character, while at the same time appealing spicy facets are added, which in the final third merge into the earthy, intense full-bodiedness that every RA fan loves. A sensational cigar!

In keeping with the election campaign - "Cabildo" means "city council" - and with astonishingly little delay, this mega-exclusive Cuban is being released in the particularly elegant format of an extra-long Corona Gorda (smoking time approx. 70 - 80 minutes). Already a highlight of the year!

Flavours

The importer's information sheet speaks of nuts, vanilla and wood - quite rightly, these facets all appear in the exciting course of the smoke. Of course, one of the main pillars of the Trinidad characteristics, which are particularly complex here, has been completely omitted, namely the tropical-fruity sweetness. It sets the tone right from the first puffs, accompanied by truly nutty roasted aromas and carried by an incredibly velvety smoke texture. The roasted character, reminiscent of Cohiba, gradually takes up more space, and the resinous scent of teak and Spanish cedar tickles the palate. Towards the end, the medium-strength world-class smoke surprises with earthier notes and a pinch of cocoa.

Cuba's contribution to the Year of the Snake in the Chinese zodiac comes from the oldest brand still in existence and immediately impresses with its fabulously stylish box in red, black and gold. But of course, the cigar itself – a Robusto Largo with a smoking time of approx. 60–70 minutes – is also absolutely delightful.

Flavours

When it comes to special editions, Partagás seems to be focusing a little more on the traditional characteristics of the brand than on the regulars these days. This is also true of this boldly blended Limitada, whose permanent latent sweetness of caramel and very dark chocolate forms the backdrop for a veritable flood of expressive, steadily intensifying spice aromas, which include resinous facets (the typical ‘incense touch’!) as well as aromas of nutmeg, cinnamon, but also fresh bread crust and, towards the end, peat and espresso towards the end. Powerful, but not overpowered, and incredibly complex!

“On time” as always, Cuba delights us with the 22-ER for Germany - and we are very happy that the mini brand SLR is finally in the spotlight again! In the medium torpedo format for approx. 55 - 70 minutes, it offers powerful smoking pleasure at its very best - and is absolutely affordable!

Flavours

Fans of the same Bolívar format can rejoice just as much as anyone who loves the nutty, woody flavor of an Upmann, but would like it to be a little stronger. Das Belicoso - Format hat eine Länge von 14 cm, einen Durchmesser von 2,06 cm was einem 52er Ringmaß entspricht. Produziert werden die edlen Jars beim renommierten deutschen Porzellanhersteller Seltmann aus dem bayrischen Weiden in der Oberpfalz. Mit Habanos gefüllte Porzellan - Jars zählen unter Aficionados weltweit zu den beliebtesten Sammlerobjekten. Die Verwendung von Jars als klassische Form der Aufbewahrung von Habanos wird seit dem späten 18. Jahrhundert angewendet. The similarities with the last limited editions under Simón's name cannot be denied. Although the strength of "Tesoro" and "Soberano", which went out of fashion in 2024, is not achieved, anyone who only associates "harmless" filigree cigars with Habanos can warm up here in a similar way to the "NGM". In terms of flavour, a concentrated firework display of intense walnut, coffee bean and later cocoa/earth aromas unfolds, delicately caressed by a hint of the citrus-fruity ethereality so characteristic of Bolívars, which occasionally plays into the floral here. It will be available exclusively in the 5THAvenue contract territory, i.e. in Germany, Austria and Poland. Together with the Cuban Habanos S.A., Heinrich Villiger, Managing Director and partner of 5THAvenue, founded the world's first joint venture for the exclusive import and distribution of Habanos, the legally protected cigars from Cuba, 25 years ago. To mark the occasion, 5THAvenue received authorisation from Habanos S.A. to produce a porcelain jar for the top Habanos brand Cohiba. The elegant jar was produced by the renowned German porcelain manufacturer Seltmann from the Bavarian town of Weiden in the Upper Palatinate.The jars are limited to 1,500 pieces and individually numbered. They can also be used as a humidor thanks to a humidification element in the lid. A cork ring allows a controlled supply of fresh air. The lid therefore only rests lightly on top. Among aficionados worldwide, porcelain jars filled with Habanos are among the most popular collector's items. Porcelain jars are a classic way of storing Habanos, which have been used since the late 18th century. Sie erhielten dadurch mehr Sonne, was der Aromabildung zu Gute kommt und zusätzlich wurden diese Blätter noch dunkler fermentiert. Geschmacklich bietet die Cohiba Talisman Edicion Limitada 2017 ein Feuerwerk. Die starke Zigarre überzeugt mit einer großen Aromavielfalt und macht Lust auf mehr. Flavors

The small brand has long since shed its image of being "just" a lighter alternative to Montecristo. And rightly so, because as this characterful foil proves, Diplomaticos has its very own characteristics! What it has in common with Monte is the bitter-sweet, chocolatey impression and the subtlety of the various spicy notes, which meet the palate in an exciting interplay. In the first half in particular, however, these facets complement each other perfectly with a completely different, yet magnificently harmonizing world of aromas of flowers, caramel, liquorice and cedar. As the smoke progresses, the profound earth and cocoa tones increasingly assert themselves with steadily increasing, overall medium strength. A jewel!

With the launch of their affordable light short filler brand 20 years ago, the Cubans opened up a whole new market segment. They are celebrating this great success with this chic light metal tin, which contains 20 sticks with a smoking time of 40 - 55 minutes each - each in its own plastic tube and with an additional anniversary anilla. The fun-loving motif on the tin refers to the cult song by Joseito Fernández that gives the tin its name.

Aroma

Sweet, rich, thoroughly "mature" tobacco flavour characterises the entire smoke. A wonderfully gentle, thoroughly honest blend, light and harmonious, with a development in the course of the smoke towards more spice and also a little more strength. A rich, full wood bouquet meets spicy and sweet notes of nutmeg, cinnamon, and cardamom – not unlike the sorely missed Upmann Robusto Anejado, but even deeper and more multifaceted. In Chinese colour symbolism, red stands for summer, fire, luck and prosperity, yellow as the colour of the emperor for the centre, balance and harmony. So the dreamlike packaging already refers to the aromatics! The best available leaves of the Magnum blend combine in Zen Buddhist harmony to create a brilliantly balanced flavour panorama that embraces nutty, melting umami roast aromas as well as the variety of finely spicy wood notes typical of the brand. A noble scent of leather appears as well as the sweetness of forest honey; towards the end, the aficionado indulges in hazelnuts and Turkish mocha. Grandiose!

This speciality, which had been announced the year before, was finally released at the end of 2020. The baroque format had already been released once in 2015 as a limited edition. It offers approx. 80 - 105 minutes of pure HU enjoyment.

Flavours

With the Limitadas, Upmann always endeavours to create a unique, multi-layered aroma. The very own delicate wood tones are integrated into a full-bodied, rich roasted flavour of nuts and fresh bread. The overall flavour is relatively dark and deep, closer to the No. 2 or ‘Sir Winston’ than to the other ‘Magnums’; the smoke consistency is sensationally dense and oily, while the strength does not exceed the medium range. The melting nuttiness becomes increasingly full-bodied as the smoke progresses. Increasingly cocoa and earth in the final third. Highly complex!

Worth knowing

This EL for 2018 came onto the market particularly late, but the long wait was worth it. The original format is basically a much shorter Corona Gorda. Due to an intensive blend and great rolling, it is very productive – 55 – 75 minutes smoking time.

Flavours

Thunderstorm, what a „surprise! The „Proprios“ are really strong by HU standards and also strongly reminiscent of blends from the last century. The characteristic woodiness is far more reminiscent of oak and coniferous forest than of the usual cedar. Instead of playful honey, there are tangy, off-flavours of very dark chocolate, embedded in a fabulously dense smoke consistency. The earthy, vaguely „autumnal“ character becomes steadily more intense as the smoke progresses, as does the power of this exceptional blend. A tremendous smoking experience!

HU.'s contribution to the coveted series of longstanding „pre-matured“ Habanos is in the popular Robusto format and somewhat „boxpressed“. The noble cigar came on the market in 2016 – lucky who still finds some! 60 – 80 minutes of smoking time.

Flavours

You can tell that this cigar, which is extremely flavourful, was still blended according to the standards of the noughties. Much stronger than today's HU.s, it lives – of course! But the multi-layered flavour also has notes of hay and autumn leaves, herbaceous nuts and dark chocolate, as well as an opulent umami flavour that increases as the smoke progresses, before ending with a nutty, leathery finish. An exciting and full-bodied pleasure, immensely productive thanks to dense rolling.

"Punctually" as always, our Cuban friends come around the corner in September 2023 with this 21 Limitada. The first puffs, however, immediately nip any grumbling in the bud, because this baroque special format - a kind of Robusto Doble with a smoking time of approx. 60 - 80 minutes - once again tastes absolutely brilliant!

Flavours

The wrapper leaves of the 1st batch seem relatively dark - and indeed, the expressive aroma play of the noble cigar fits this impression perfectly. Of course, a Hoyo will never be strong - but with its intense mocha-like flavours, the Upmann-like nutty melting and the latent chocolaty finish, the 55 has quite a bit more flavour punch to offer than most of the others from HdM. Of course, the subtler facets typical of the brand are also present in abundance - lovely hay scents, ideally dosed honey/caramel sweetness, hints of exotic tropical woods... a colourful, happy potpourri of good taste!
