The „Mille Fleurs“ or „Shorts“ are probably more suitable as an introduction to the brand; fans, on the other hand, particularly appreciate the „Ari“. A strong cigar with an astonishingly full body, spicy and earthy, with a fine hint of pepper and intense incense notes typical of Partag. There is also a discreet ätheric sweetness and pleasant, black tea-like tannins. The solid, hearty smoke at a real friendship price shows quite a few crass competitor products from Nicaragua with their sometimes exaggerated pepperiness where the hammer is.

A sampler came first, now the 3 formats are also available individually - and actually less expensive than in a pack of three! The thick torpedo with approx. 55 - 65 minutes of smoking time bundles the qualities of the dream blend into a concentrated treat.

The rustic deluxe cheroot fascinates right from the start with its lush smoke volume - a flood of complex spicy aromas hits the palate in oily density. The palette ranges from cinnamon and nutmeg to clove and allspice to deep, warming black pepper. Subtle caramel sweetness provides the necessary counterpoint, combined with the more fragrant, charmingly floral facets that can also be found in a similar form in “Lusitania”, for example. Of course, there are countless other facets at this level - oak, for example, and the brand's typical resins. The finish is furious!

Probably the most elegant format of the Partagás-equivalent to super-luxury series such as “Línea 1935” or “Línea de Oro” is a type of Gran Corona Gorda with a smoking time of around 65 - 75 minutes. Intense Cuban indulgence for a special occasion!

Cuba's longest-serving manufacturer has put a lot of thought into this Vítola. The ratio of length to thickness ensures an exciting smoke. What begins with a mixture of sweet and spicy, dazzlingly diverse incense and oriental spice aromas, typical of the brand, escalates into an expressive, powerful adventure that repeatedly leads to experiences that one would rather expect from a Bolívar. In other words, extremely appealing citrusy, ethereal, sometimes tart tones that fit perfectly into the highly complex flavor profile. A dream!

While the luxury lines of other brands tend to represent their powerful side, the "LM" seems to be designed to fully exploit the aromatic spectrum. In other words, in addition to captivatingly delicate notes of fragrant floral character and permanent latent caramel sweetness, a veritable cornucopia of spicy-spicy facets unfolds here, from the resinous "oriental" incense tones typical of Partagás to tingling cinnamon and extravagant hints of aniseed and clove. With a wonderfully smooth smoke texture, a citrusy ethereality is sometimes brought to bear that is otherwise more familiar from Bolívar. And of course, every Vítola has its own charming characteristics - look forward to the regular release!

Flavours

This is one of the sweetest, most charming Partagás and, with a smooth medium strength, also one of the lightest of the brand generally categorised as strong. With a variety of fragrant floral aromas, it lives up to its name, but also offers plenty of that wonderfully tingly, sweet and spicy cinnamon/cedar flavour that Partagás fans love so much. The heavier spice and incense notes as well as the distinct earthiness of its stronger sisters are more present in the background here; a delicious honey sweetness continues to take centre stage. One of the few Partagás whose flavour is more suited to the warm rather than the cold season - perfect as a starter too!

Worth knowing

Of course, the “Mareva” short corona is also part of the Partagás portfolio. The “Shorts” were already on the market before the revolution and have always been the preferred “break cigar” for fans of the brand for around 30 - 40 minutes.

Flavours

Partagás in its purest form! “Minutos” are known for capturing the essence of a brand in just over half an hour using the very best tobacco. The “shorts” are a little more expensive than other small formats - but it's worth it, because none of their sisters bring the flavors of spices, aromatic resin, earth, coffee and the unmistakable light caramel touch to the man as compact and concentrated as they do! Accompanied by a pleasant leathery impression, the spice and earthiness increase as the smoke progresses, even adding a hint of cocoa. One of the best little ones!

Worth knowing

This Dalia, which is extremely popular among connoisseurs and has a smoking time of around 85 – 105 minutes, has been around for around 40 years. It is sold in varnished („varnished“) boxes and should not be confused with the much smaller „898 unvarnished“ produced until 2002. The name refers to the arrangement of the cigars in boxes of 25, introduced by Ramón Allones.

Flavours

Quite old school, this blend keeps the memory of 20th century Partagás cigar flavours more alive than the somewhat altered blend of today„s Lusitanias“. The outstanding feature is the exuberant exotic spice of nutmeg, cinnamon and clove, scented resin and dark woods, which makes the smoke a captivating pleasure. This is joined by an earthy undertone on the one hand, and a plethora of delicate, fragrant-floral and sweet notes on the other. A complex, aromatically rich, also quite strong Habano with the format-typical exciting, „colourful“ smoke progression – the intensity increases steadily until the furious finale. Brilliant!

Worth knowing

Very gradually, the interest in slim, elegant long formats seems to return - and Cuba's oldest brand takes this into account with a brand new special format for selected retailers! This great special corona burns for about 65 - 80 minutes, comes in a beautiful box, and yet delights with a nice price.

Aroma

Finally a new Habano that represents old virtues of the cigar art! Power, intensity, but also a lot of variety in the course of smoking with several filigree intermediate tones characterize the youngest offspring of the Partagás family. A lush pinch of various spices accompanies the entire smoke, from warming black pepper to exotic nutmeg and allspice to that distinctive resinous, quite brand-typical note that reminds many of incense. The "spice bomb" is balanced by delicate floral sweetness, fragrant leather, in the last third increasingly by peaty earthiness. Quite strong, but absolutely harmonious!

Ging die Tendenz in den letzten 2 Jahrzehnten hin zu dicken, eher leicht gemischten Zigarren, zeichnet sich nun eine leichte Trendwende ab. Nicht nur von der Aufmachung her eine im besten Sinne konservative Habano. Sie schmeckt im Wesentlichen wie ein Blend des 20. Jahrhunderts, als der Anteil kräftiger Ligero-Blätter im Durchschnitt noch höher war – tiefe, erdige Würze, malziger Umami-Geschmack frischer Brotkruste, eine angenehm ledrige Anmutung, wunderbare leichte Karamellsüße und eine Fülle eleganter, oft zimtiger Gewürznoten zeichnen den reichhaltigen, kraftvollen Blend aus. Selbst jene latente Schokonote schimmert durch, die sonst nur sehr alte Partagás aufweisen. Außerordentliche Geschmackstiefe und perfekte, für lange Rauchzeiten sorgende Rollung rechtfertigen das Preisniveau allemal, denn diese „neuen alten“ Zigarren sind tatsächlich etwas Besonderes!

Im Unterschied zu manch anderen Tubo-Zigarren, die trotz Umbenennung identisch mit bestimmten Vítolas ohne Tubo sind, präsentiert Partagás mit der Tubo-Reihe tatsächlich eigenständige Blends und Formate. Diese kleine „Coronita“ macht 30 – 40 Minuten lang Spaß.

Aromen

Die Tendenz dünner Kleinformate zu hoch konzentrierten Aromen deutet sich auch hier mindestens an. Erde, Toast und Harz bauen ein markentypisches geschmackliches Grundgerüst auf, das allerdings durchaus von filigraneren, lieblicheren Noten abgefedert wird – etwa von ätherischem Zedernduft, erstaunlicher Cremigkeit, auch nussigen Beiklängen. Ein konsistentes, kompaktes Aromenspiel mit steigender Intensität im letzten Drittel. Die „CJ“ zählt nicht zu den stärksten Partagás und ist durchaus für den Einstieg in die Marke geeignet. Diese minimal verlängerte Mareva zählt zum Traditionsbestand der Kultmarke. Auch hier wurde 2002 vom Maschinenfertigung auf Handarbeit umgestellt. Das Format ist nur im Tubo erhältlich. Rauchdauer ca. 40 – 55 Minuten.

Aromen

Wie auch diverse andere Vítolas gehört diese Zigarre zu den eher nur mittelstarken Vertreterinnen der pauschal als „kräftig“ eingestuften Marke. Auch ihre Aromatik ist relativ moderat, wiewohl die klassischen Geschmacksnoten natürlich vorhanden sind – Erd-, Zimt- und Pfefferwürze, Zedern-, auch Sandelholz sowie die unverkennbaren Duftharztöne. Kennzeichnend sind leckere „brotige“ Röstnoten mit Umami-Touch, die andere Partagás so nicht aufweisen. Die durch das umliegende Zedernblättchen betonten Holzfacetten nehmen mit der Reifung zu.

Das Aushängeschild der Metalltubo-Linie hatte früher sogar eine ganz eigene Bauchbinde. Die ist Geschichte – seit 2010 kommen die Aluröhren aber in einem umso spektakuläreren Design daher. Diese tolle „Crema“ brennt ca. 45 – 65 Minuten.

Aromen

Sicher die eleganteste, aromatisch dichteste Zigarre ihrer Serie und eine der besten kleineren Kuba-Coronas überhaupt. Die kräftigen Weihrauch- und Gewürznoten sind von blumig-pikanter Süße unterlegt, umspielt von dunklen Holzaromen, Torf- und Lakritze-Facetten. Rösttöne mit Espresso-Charakter treten im Rauchverlauf immer deutlicher hervor. „Dunkle“ und „helle“ Aromen ergänzen sich äußerst harmonisch, wobei die dunklen im Vordergrund stehen. Abwechslungsreich und mit spannender Entwicklung, erinnert die kräftige Prachtzigarre deutlich an die Langformate der Marke.

Die „Short Panetela“ ist ein Dauerbrenner im Portfolio und eine der vielen ehemals maschinengefertigten Habanos, die seit 2002 handgerollt werden – allerdings zu einem sehr reellen Preis. Wunderbare, kräftige Alltagszigarre mit 35 – 50 (!) Minuten Rauchzeit.

Aromen

Das erstaunlich ergiebige Kleinformat zählt, wie u.a. die „Aristocrats“, zu den kräftigen Markenvertretern. Geschmacklich eher linear und konsistent, punktet es insbesondere bei erfahreneren Rauchern mit großer Intensität und tollem, unverstelltem Ligero-Aroma nach dunkler Erde und frischem Espresso. Deutlicher als bei den meisten anderen Habanos ist eine pfeffrige Komponente vorhanden, die aber nie unangenehm beißt. Ein deftig-pikanter, edelherber Smoke mit nur leichter Süße. Der traditionsbewusste Blend gewinnt durch Reifung besonders an Komplexität.

The Montecristo ‘No. 2’ and various large Cohiba formats may be better known and have a more glamorous image - but this classic Double Corona has always won the hearts of countless connoisseurs. The blend may have been ‘toned down’ somewhat - as with other Habanos - but it is still one of the best! A cigar for over 2 hours.

Flavours

It would go far beyond the scope of this article to describe the many changes in flavour during the smoking process. Just this much: the ‘Lusi’ is one of those great cigars whose enjoyment is like a flavourful adventure. Fragrant resin, plenty of cinnamon-cedar-like ethereality, beguilingly floral, heavy sweetness, a hint of cocoa on the palate that is otherwise hardly known from Partagás; opulent exotic spice as if from the Mogul cuisine of Persia and northern India; behind this, down-to-earth earth and leather notes with umami roasting tones throughout. Malt and liquorice in the finish. A magical cigar; no longer quite as strongly blended as in the past, but still above average in strength.

Auf den Erfolg von Cohibas „Maduro 5“-Reihe hin konzipierte auch Partagás eine Serie mit besonders lang gereiftem Tabak. Erstes Ergebnis war 2015 diese Robusto Grande-Variante. Der sehr starke Ursprungsblend wurde 2018 etwas verändert, der Preis erfreulicherweise gesenkt. Rauchdauer ca. 65 – 80 Minuten.

Aromen

Tatsächlich, der Maduro-Charakter des Tabaks wird sofort deutlich. So schokoladige Noten, so fruchtige Süße besitzen andere Partagás nicht. Auch die cremig-dichte Rauchkonsistenz zeugt von der exzellenten Qualität dieser noch immer kräftigen, opulenten Habano. Natürlich birgt sie auch Facetten, die wir von der Marke kennen – zimtig-zedrige Würze etwa, Kaffeeduft und einen erdigen Grundton. Auch die charmante Blumigkeit der „E 2“ dringt zuweilen durch. Die Raucheigenschaften sind bemerkenswert gutmütig – eine unkomplizierte Habano mit großem Rauchvolumen und furiosem Finish voll Dörrobst, Torf und Kakao.

Wissenswertes

Da die erste Maduro-Partagás sehr gut ankam, ließ man 2018 zwei weitere Vítolas folgen. Dieses Pummelchen mit Torpedo-Kopf ist wider Erwarten der Charmebolzen der Reihe und zählt zu den leichteren Markenvertretern. Recht ergiebig mit ca. 60 – 80 Minuten!

Aromen

Die Kombination „Maduro + Torpedo“ lässt ein intensives „Powerhouse“ vermuten – aber weit gefehlt! Die kleine Dicke raucht sich eher wie andere kubanische Gorditos, etwa die Cohiba „Medio Siglo“oder die HU „Magnum 54“, sprich: relativ leicht gemischt, cremig, unkompliziert, mit mächtigem Rauchvolumen. Auch geschmacklich steht sie auf der milden Seite von Partagás, mit markanten Nuss- und Holzaromen, anhaftender Honigsüße, einem fast Montecristo-mäßigen Kakao-Touch, ja gar jener Milchkaffee-Assoziation, die sonst eher bei den leichten Habanos-Marken auftaucht. Untypisch, aber mehr als gefällig!

Auch das dritte Maduro-Format der Marke aus dem Herzen von La Habana erschien 2018. Erste Testraucher der langen Robusto wussten von imposanter Stärke zu berichten, doch hat die sehr intensive Zigarre auch andere große Vorzüge! Rauchzeit ca. 70 – 85 Minuten.

Aromen

Erstaunlich, wie sich die drei Zigarren der Serie geschmacklich unterscheiden und doch alle typische Maduro-Noten aufweisen! Ist es bei der „No. 1“ das Dörrobst-Aroma und bei der „No. 2“ die cremige Süße, so protzt die „No. 3“ mit prägnanten herbsüßen Schokotönen, torfigen Röstaromen und einem ganzen Gewürzbasar. Sie ist insofern die typischste Partagás von den dreien, als sie die charakteristische Würze ebenso aufweist wie Facetten, die man gemeinhin nur von lang gereiften Zigarren der Marke kennt (etwa eine alte „Serie D No. 1“ aus der 2004er-EL). Die herzhaften Pfeffer- und Sandelholznoten dieser sehr kräftigen Habano werden mit weiterer Reifung sicher noch mehr Kakaogeschmack weichen.

With the switch to hand production, the ring gauge of this traditional Vítola was also reduced from 44 to 42. Like the “Mille Fleurs” and “Super”, this cigar, which is highly regarded by connoisseurs, has an extremely good PLV. Burns for approx. 40 - 55 minutes.

The smoke of this inconspicuous Habano is like a showcase of all the typical brand aromas! Cinnamon, precious wood, coffee, earth, a little caramel, a tiny hint of cocoa, the unmistakable aromatic resin note - all in an exciting interplay, with a steadily increasing intensity. Not one of the strongest Partagás - on the contrary - but one of the most complex, full-bodied and exciting, despite its manageable size and affordable price. Like few Habanos, it is suitable for uniting both young aficionados and “old hands”.

Today, very few cigars are rolled in the classic medium Perfecto format “Tacos” - thank God this pre-revolutionary evergreen has been preserved for us. Strong tobacco, extremely popular with experienced “Habaneros”. Smoking time approx. 60 – 80 minutes.

Flavours

Long-time Habanos fans will find this smoke nostalgic, as it is reminiscent of blends from the last century in the best possible way. Intense cinnamon and nutmeg spice, dark wood and finely astringent leather notes, pleasant earthy weight on the palate, mouth-filling fragrant resin aroma, roasted aromas with a walnut touch, oily smoke consistency, but also a nice sweetness that increases steadily with maturation. An incredibly striking, harmonious taste with exemplary development - as the rejuvenation begins, the aromas become darker and the overall considerable strength increases. A great, powerful cigar!

Before the revolution, there were plenty of ‘Serie...’ cigars from Partagás, but they were all discontinued under Castro. In 1975, the tradition was resumed with this Robusto. However, this bestseller is a rather ‘modern’ Habano, not too strong and very uncomplicated. Smoking time approx. 55 - 70 minutes.

Flavours

The most beginner-friendly medium Partagás format shines with a compact, engaging flavour. The pervasive resin/incense aroma and the heavy earthy spice of its stronger sisters play second fiddle here at best; the focus is on a wonderful cinnamon flavour, cedar ethereal, roasted bread aromas and the scent of coffee, combined with a fine caramel sweetness. The floral elegance of the ‘Mille Fleurs’ also shines through at times. The great finish is designed for a rather light draw, a large amount of smoke and a good-natured burn. Apart from the stronger finish, the strength levels out in the centre of the midfield.

In 2011, Partagás responded to the increasing demand for handy short smokes with this addition to the “Series D”. With Minuto length and Robusto ring gauge, a trendy short format with great smoking properties. Smoking time 45 – 60 minutes.

Flavours

To be honest: there aren't really any big differences to the “D 4”. But that's anything but a shame, because anyone who appreciates that great Robusto will also love this short version. The spice, bread, wood, roasted and coffee aromas come across as even more compact, more intense in the second half than with the “D 4”, but perhaps a touch less sweet. The “five” also seems slightly stronger, and the classic “Partagás feeling” with earthy, slightly leathery spice is an idea more clearly pronounced. The comfortable smoking process is also remarkable here.

Ehrlich gesagt: Große Unterschiede zur „D 4“ sind nicht wirklich auszumachen. Das ist aber alles andere als eine Schande, denn wer jene großartige Robusto schätzt, wird auch diese Kurzversion lieben. Die Gewürz-, Brot-, Holz-, Röst- und Kaffee-Aromen kommen noch kompakter rüber, in der zweiten Hälfte intensiver als bei der „D 4“, dafür vielleicht einen Tick weniger süß. Die „Fünfer“ mutet auch minimal stärker an, und das klassische „Partagás-Feeling“ mit erdiger, leicht ledriger Würze ist eine Idee deutlicher ausgeprägt. Der bequeme Rauchverlauf ist auch hier bemerkenswert.

Als jüngster Spross der Familie D ging 2014 dieser Winzling ins Rennen. Aufgepasst, diese Kurze bietet den Blend in maximal konzentrierter Form, strotz vor Power und Intensität. 35 – 50 großartige Minuten, eher für erfahrene Raucher.

Aromen

Das tolle Zigärrchen springt einen förmlich an mit ihrer konzentrierten Aromatik, die einerseits alle Charakteristika ihrer beiden größeren Schwestern bietet, andererseits aber mit tieferen, mächtigeren Erd- und Röstaromen markentypischer, vor allem auch stärker ist. Insbesondere die Kaffee-Komponente ist hier ähnlich markant vorhanden wie bei den urwüchsigen „Culebras“. Die für die „Serie D“ besonders prägende zimtig-süßliche Würze ist bei der „No. 6“ allerdings ebenfalls stark ausgeprägt. Erstaunlich, dass die nur 9 cm Länge durchaus eine erkennbare Entwicklung im Rauchverlauf hergeben!
