Buy cigars by Quai D'Orsay

Quai d'Orsay is a fairly young brand in the Habanos range. In 1973, it was introduced by Cubatabaco exclusively for the French market. The inspiration for this came from SEITA, the former French tobacco monopoly. The name of the brand refers to the famous street on the banks of the Seine in Paris, where the company was based at the time. For more than 40 years, the brand was an almost unknown gem in Habanos' portfolio. It was not until the global launch of two new formats that cigar lovers around the world would discover and enjoy this special brand with French charm and sophistication. It is also characterized by a fine taste, character and intensity of the best Cuban tobaccos. For the brand Quai d'Orsay began in 2017 a promising new era. This happened with the relaunch in a completely new design and the inclusion of two new formats distributed internationally in the main markets of Habanos S.A.. They were presented for the first time at the XIX Festival del Habano: the QUAI D'ORSAY NO.50 (production name "D No.5"), with a length of 110 mm and a ring gauge of 50, typical of Robusto, and the QUAI D'ORSAY NO.54 (production name "Edmundo Grueso"), a completely new format, with a length of 135 mm and a massive ring gauge of 54. Both are offered in unvarnished wooden boxes containing 10 and 25 pieces. The third vitola of the brand, in the classic Corona format, has existed since the birth of the brand: the QUAI D'ORSAY CORONAS CLARO (production name "Coronas"), with an average ring gauge of 42 and a length of 142 mm. The cigars are totalmente a mano, tripa larga - completely handmade longfiller.

Worth knowing

Presented together with the “No. 50” in 2017, this “Edmundo Grueso (thick Edmundo)” is the flagship of the newly established brand. The Habano, which burns for approx. 60 - 75 minutes, is unfortunately only produced in small quantities - if available, then from us!

Flavours

If the Corona is a little spicier, the two thicker formats from Qd'O are quite close in taste. The extreme creaminess is also noticeable here - even more so than in the 50 - as is the opulent fermentation sweetness. Nutty melting, latte macchiato feeling, perhaps a hint of dark chocolate in the background, a mild form of roasted aroma, but also the typical Cuban cedar wood aroma... despite its low strength, the large Robusto has plenty of flavor, variety and complexity to offer at a reasonable price. Somehow it is reminiscent of a decadent sweet breakfast in the best sense of the word - but it delights at any time of day.

Worth knowing

Like Vegueros in 2014, this brand underwent a complete relaunch in 2017. The only “old” Vítola left was this great cigar in the classic Corona format, albeit with a revised blend. It burns for around 50 - 65 minutes.

Flavours

Like all the “new” Qd'O, this is also a sensational “feel-good cigar”. As clearly the strongest representative of its brand, it never exceeds a moderate strength. Due to its format, the flavor development from sweet, “light” to more bitter “dark” aromas is most pronounced. The interplay of aromas offers a mega-harmonious combination of sweetness, umami and cream. Latte macchiato, caramel, brittle, roasted almonds come to mind; everything about this Habano is flattering, soft and incredibly pleasing. Towards the end, you can taste dark chocolate and roasted nuts. A dream for beginners and those with a sweet tooth!

Worth knowing

Just in time for the 2017 Christmas season, this mini Robusto, together with its bigger sister, caused a stir among fans of light Habanos for the first time. An ingenious starter cigar for 40 - 50 minutes

Flavours

Only a few extremely light cigars develop such an opulent flavor profile. Coffee with milk, nuts such as almonds and cashews, vanilla and light, fine wood aromas are harmoniously interwoven, while the darker tones of the Corona are only hinted at. Due to the format, the cigar shines less with variety than with exemplary consistency and maximum smoking comfort. The mouthfeel is downright creamy and slurpy, with subtle spicy notes enriching the captivating interplay of aromas towards the end. Perfect for young aficionados!

What you need to know

The naming of the brand after the seat of the French Foreign Ministry already refers to its character as a noble, light "diplomatic cigar". This toro-like format is extremely affordable by Cuban standards with a smoking time of approx. 70 - 85 minutes!

Flavors

Almost everyone loves this Marle, because despite its beginner-friendly lightness, it also offers more than enough fullness of flavor for the experienced passionado. The sensory focus is on a veritable array of melting nutty flavors, from almond and peanut at the beginning to the noble tartness of walnut in the last third. The sweet facets are appropriately reminiscent of nougat and caramel, with a delicate cocoa note spreading across the palate later on. Of course, the spectrum of this excellent Habano is far from exhausted. Vanilla and mildly ethereal herbs such as sage, as well as subtle spice shortly before the finish, provide plenty of excitement!
