Cigars by Rafael Gonzalez
Rafael González brand was born in the 1930s. Especially famous was one format of this brand: the Lonsdale. With 165 mm length and 16.67 mm circumference (42 ring gauge), it is actually a Cervante according to the format, but much better known under its sales name Lonsdale. It was the first to be called Lonsdale, after Lord Lonsdale, the sporting earl from England, a famous cigar aficionado of the time. Nowadays, some other Habanos brands still use this format name. On the lid of each box there is a peculiar English inscription that says that the cigars should be smoked within a month of being shipped from Havana. Otherwise, it says, they should be left to age carefully for the period of a year. Rafael Gonzalez cigars are made of a light-flavored tobacco blend of filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo tobacco growing region. All formats are made using the totalmente a mano, tripa larga technique and are entirely handmade longfillers. Only the Panetela Extra format is totalmente a mano, tripa corta - a completely handmade short filler consisting of tobaccos from the Semi Vuelta.
